The Corps of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) provides engineering support to maintain and repair the vast array of British Army equipment. They will be found wherever the Army is operating, at home or overseas. The technical training our soldiers’ receive gives them the confidence to tackle any engineering problem. Key Responsibilities for vehicle mechanics in British Army
- Keeping the Army’s vehicles working at home and on operations

Plant operator mechanic
You work as part of a project team at Army sites all over the world. You’re trained to use all kinds of plant machinery, such as diggers and bulldozers for earth-moving, excavation and other tasks. Plant Operator Mechanic is a Trade role in the Royal Engineers. All the Royal Engineer soldier job roles are divided into 5 groups. When you apply to the Engineers, you will apply to the trade group rather than the specific trade.
